The best cities in the world for 2019 have been revealed in a new report, it has been revealed.

Marketing firm Resonance Consultancy ranked the best 100 cities with a population of over one million people.

Using online data such as TripAdvisor reviews, Facebook check-ins and Google searches from residents and visitors to destinations around the world, the best cities have been collated.

Surprisingly, London took the number one spot and was the only UK city to make the top ten.

It was followed by Paris, New York, Tokyo and Barcelona, making up the top five.

The remaining cities were Moscow, Chicago, Singapore, Dubai and San Francisco.

Visiter numbers and economic output, while analysed, were not the core factors for making the top ten.

The experience in the city and how people are influenced was also investigated, by user content shared online.

Compared to their study in 2017, London has held the top spot while Paris has overtaken New York for the second spot.

Moscow has fallen from fourth place to sixth, while Chicago went from tenth to seventh this year.

Resonance President and CEO Chris Fair said of the report: “With the World’s Best Cities ranking, our goal is to provide city leaders—from destination marketing organizations to economic development teams—with new tools and perspectives on the key factors that shape a city’s competitive identity, community well-being, and future prosperity.

“While other rankings consider similar statistics such as airport connectivity or educational attainment in their methodology, no other ranking incorporates data from online channels such as TripAdvisor and Instagram to measure the experiential quality and performance of a city.”

According to Lonely Planet, Antwerp was one of the top cities for 2018.
