Tamron 18-270 Review – The PerfectLens
If you take pictures frequently duringor vacation with your DSLR, you know that carrying a lot of photographic equipment can be a real pain. It will slow you down in your journey and will just get in the way in your picture taking enjoyment.
You do not want to spend most of your time carrying equipments and ended up coming home with unmemorable vacation pictures. This is the thing that you should avoid the most as a travel photographer.
The solution is to bring one lens with you that will cover all shooting situation. This type of lens is extremely popular nowadays and it is known as a super zoom lens.
This Tamron 18-270 lens is one of them. This kind of lens will eliminate lens changing and allow you to focus on picture taking moments.
The Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 VC is one of my favorite super zoom lens. This lens is the world’s longest zoom range, featuring a 15x zoom factor and is equipped with a super effective Vibration Compensation (VC) mechanism to minimize hand shake.
The VC mechanism is a shot saver, especially if you like to shoot at the telephoto range. If you are shooting handheld, I would recommend to always turn the Vibration Compensation function on at all times.
Given the focal range from 18mm to 270mm, you can photography virtually any subject. For example, you can easily shoot candid images, landscape, birds, portraits and whatever subject you can imagine.
The only downside of a super zoom lens is that it sacrifices a little bit of image quality for convenience. Lenses with more zoom range are known to be slightly weak in the optical sharpness.
However, for most users, this will not be an issue as it requires trained eyes to tell the difference between image taken with a super zoom lens and a dedicated zoom lens.
Apart from being a great travel lens, the Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 is also an excellent lens for first-time DSLR purchaser.
With the Tamron 18-270mm you can experiment with any focal length and then decide what type of photography you want to specialize into. For example, if you frequently shoot at the 70-200mm, you might consider buying a dedicated telephoto lens.
All in all, I would highly recommend this lens for any travel photographer or first-time DSLR owner. Having said that, more advanced photographers will also benefit from the compactness and practicality of this lens.
